The Finest in Oriental Jazz:
ensemble FISFÜZ
The ensemble FISFÜZ was founded by Annette Maye (clarinet,
soprano saxophone) and Murat Coskun (percussion, frame drums) in 1995. After
a change in personnel the group crystallised into the present quartet in 1997
with Karim Othman-Hassan (oud) and Wolfgang Maye (acoustic bass). Traditional
Turkish, Greek and Arab folklore as well as Klezmer melodies form their musical
basis. Elements of jazz add a certain spice and refinement. The joy of experimentation
and virtuoso improvisation round off the recipe; an enchantingly variegated,
many-sided music is revealed to the listener.
In 1998 the ensemble FisFüz won the Southwest German Radio's international
competition "querbeet", in which nearly 500 bands from southern
Germany participated. The quartet was victorious in the judgment of the public
as well as in that of the jury.
