PAmagieRA
PAmagieRA are pianist, Henning Schmiedt and Saxophonist, Volker
Schlott. The musicians have been meeting one another for years on various
projects, such as playing in the band
"TAKSIM" supporting the Turkish singer, SEMA, or whilst working
with Mikis Theodorakis and Maria Farantouri. PAmagieRA has been in existence
since 1995, producing a type of instrumental, contemporary chamber music with
European roots. The Schmiedt/Schlott duo is the basis. The percussionist,
Uli Moritz, is a regular travelling companion.
Henning Schmiedt, born in 1965, commenced his professional career in 1985,
played in various line-ups with widely differing styles. A record production
in 1991 marked the start of his collaboration with Mikis Theodorakis. Schmiedt
wrote the instrumental arrangements for Maria Farantouri's song cycles and
took over the musical direction at recording sessions and on tours. Since
1993 he has worked on various projects with the soul singer, Jocelyn B. Smith.
Henning Schmiedt composed several scores for screen and stage.
Volker Schlott, born in 1958, studied at the Hans Eisler Music Academy in
Berlin and began his professional career at the age of 19 in the Jazz-Rock-
Band "Fusion". In 1985/86, after various projects, there followed
the formation of the group "FunHorns", the "Volker Schlott
Quartet" and his "Reeds-Solo-Project". He was a soloist with
the Berlin Radio Big Band from 1985-87. Volker Schlott composes music for
stage and screen and is a lecturer at the Hans Eisler Music Academy.

Press quote about Henning Schmiedt:
"Henning Schmiedt is an aesthete who playfully transposes compositional
intentions with professional insight. His performance, therefore, always appears
"hand crafted". He places important musical accents harmoniously
and with great virtuosity."
Press quote about Volker Schlott:
"His music is impressive because the difficult to play is made easy to
listen to. He works on his saxophones like a true artist, varying and improvising
calmly, sympathetically and with ease . . ."
Press quote about PAmagieRA:
"Minimalist sounds for saxophone, keyboard and percussion... The perfect
accompaniment for gaing out of the window and daydreaming" (Tip)
Press quote about Okanagan:
"...a bonfire of melody: The sounds flow from the instruments as if it
couldn`t be any different." (Scala)
