Kurt Weill - Musik for the film by Sven Düfer
This CD thanks its existence to a film by the young director and producer
Sven Düfer. In the year 2000 - the year of the 100th birthday and the
50th anniversary of the death of Kurt Weill - he began looking for clues and
made the sympathetically insightful documentary film on the life of Kurt Weill.
The Weill researcher Dr. Jürgen Schebera visits Weill's main residences:
Dessau, Berlin, Paris and New York. He is accompanied by actors, actresses,
and singers who feel particularly close to Weill artistically. They discuss
their connections to Weill at the composer's original working and living places
and interpret his songs. This leads to surprising and highly impressive results.
Milva, for example, speaks about her own path to Weill that took place via
Brecht and presents the Sailors' Song in German and in Italian; Blixa Bargeld
sings the Bilbao Song on an instrumental shellac recording from 1929 and Udo
Lindenberg interprets the famous Mackie Messer Song in his own way. The extravagant
musical pearls of this documentary film appear on this soundtrack album.
Bilder/Assoziationen zu Kurt Weill (Pictures)/Associations of Kurt Weill
The composer Henning Schmiedt also wrote that portion of the film music not
by Weill. This confrontation with the subjects of the composer Kurt Weill
inspired him to write his "Bilder" (Pictures), his associations
of Weill, movingly recorded on this piano solo album.
The film "Kurt Weill" has been shown successfully
